about the class

This 8-week course teaches newer parents and caregivers to both lead and follow Swing dancing.

What is Swing Dancing? Click here to find out!

This course moves at a slower pace to allow for learning both roles and taking care of our little ones.

Tuition covers you, your baby, and your partner (could be a co-parent, grandparent, cousin, friend, etc). Older kids are welcome to join and dance around to the music, but caregivers are responsible for attending to them.

These classes offer a chance to connect and grow our new parent community (both on and off the dance floor), and to raise our next generation with an early love for jazz music and dances.

The material taught each session starts with the basics, but will also introduce moves not taught in other courses so that families can enjoy multiple sessions.

If you just can’t wait until the next session starts, or want to test the water with a 30 minute drop-in lesson, please check out the Seattle Sunshine Swing Dance, which happens the 1st & 3rd Fridays of each month.

Strap on those babies, and LET’S DANCE!

This video of Lindy Hop comes from our most recent session, and highlights that everyone who comes is taught to lead and follow!

Dancing creates community! We love to go out for dinner and drinks after class!

Dancers past and present get together and enjoy creating community!

Have a toddler?

Originally created with baby-carrying in mind, now I’m making space for a wider range of babies, waddlers and toddlers!

If your baby is now a waddler/toddler, you’re also welcome to register!

My baby is now over 18 months and enjoys running around more than being carried!
Now that he’s on his feet, he chooses when he wants to come over and dance and when he wants to play on his own.

Adults are still the focus of the instruction.
Adults will learn and model how to dance together with everyone in class and,
of course, we’ll dance with older kiddos when they show interest!

Where’s all the fun?!

These courses happen at

Phinney Center
(aka Phinney Neighborhood Association)

6532 Phinney Ave N
Seattle, WA 98103

Community meals

After each class it has become a tradition to go out to grab some dinner.
It’s become an extra special part of class, and once you’ve become a part of our community,
you can always come back and join for dinner!

About John

Professional Swing & Blues dance instructor John Lozano (and baby Bodhi) says it’s always a good time to start learning to dance!

After nearly 25 years of dancing and teaching, and now becoming a dad, John wants to combine his two loves by teaching families to dance together!

Social dances (where people often dance with many partners) are based on a culture of respect and care for one another, and these lessons can’t be taught too young.
